Participation And Collaboration

Collaboration is an important dimension in spatial decision processes. During a spatial decision process, in addition to the classical decision making phases and steps (i.e. issue articulation, intelligence, design, choice, and their sub steps), there may also be activities in the dimension of collaboration. These activities are present in and overlay with some or all of the decision process phases, and are manifested in different ways, depending on the parameters of collaboration such as participant type, participation level, contribution mode. The participant type parameter concerns the range of the decision participant types and the number of participants that are present (decision makers, types of advisors, types of stake holders including the public, etc.). For each participant type, the level parameter concerns the level of their participation (communication, coordination, cooperation, collaboration). The contribution modes includes direct input (e.g. on importance value of evaluation criteria), comments, reviews, etc. There are also various methods for selecting/engaging the participants (see Group selection/engagement methods), and methods for reaching consensus among the participants (see group consensus methods).
