An attribute may have no natural scale by which its values may be objectively measured, in which case values are measured on a constructed scale (also called a subjective scale or subjective index). For example, there is no natural scale for measuring the aesthetic impact of establishing major facilities such as a nuclear power station or a shopping mall.
