Spatial Expert Systems

Spatial expert system (SES) software can be defined as a computer-based system that employs reasoning methodologies in a particular spatial problem domain in order to transfer expertise and render advice or recommendations, much like a human expert (Waters 1988, Kim et al. 1990). SES is also referred to as a spatial knowledge =based system (SKBS). It aims at imitating the reasoning ;process of experts in solving specific spatial problems, such as industrial and retail site selection, natural resources management, and natural hazard assessment. Broadly speaking, an SES consists of a set of rules and user-supplied data that interact through an inference engine.
