Public Utility

A public utility is a company that maintains the infrastructure for public service such as electricity generation, electricity retailing, water and sanitation services, flood control and water conservation, or telecommunication. Public utilities can be privately or publicly owned. Cooperative utilities are owned by the customers that they serve and are usually found in rural areas.
