The simplest method for assessing the importance of weights is to arrange them in rank or order; that is, every criterion under consideration is ranked in the order of the decision maker’s preference. Either straight ranking or inverse ranking can be used. Once the ranking is established for a set of criteria, several procedures for generating numerical weights from rank-order information are available, e.g. rank sum, rank reciprocal, rank exponent method.
