In weighted goal programming, the objective is to find a solution that minimizes the weighted sum of the goal deviations. The weights represent additional information reflecting the decision maker’s preferences with respect to the deviation variables. The method assumes that the positive deviations and negative deviations of the criterion outcomes from aspired goals are equally undesirable; that is, the decision maker perceives both overachievement and underachievement of specified goals as equally undesirable outcomes.
